Pros

Mission driven, massive market, brilliant people, solving complex problems that matter. Talent at Natera is quickly recognized and developed and given greater responsibility. Culture is highly meritocratic and action-oriented. Fast-paced environment and competitive landscape require people to work hard and be at their best. Dissent is encouraged and people listen to each other, though they don't always agree and you better bring data and evidence to support your claims. Challenges me to bring my A-game to every meeting, and every customer interaction. At end of the day I know we are making the world a better place for thousands of people who are trying to have kids or dealing with cancer.

Cons

Less time for traditional people management, since there are so many projects in this fast-growing company. Sometimes the management team can get distracted with new opportunities, which can affect deadlines. Enormous effort going into managing scale and growth, which is exhausting but also exciting.

Pros

3 hot catered meals a week, snacks, beverages, great medical benefits that started from day 1

Cons

**Poor management across the board in every department** textbook favoritism: 'let's fire 20% of the misfits in customer service so our buddies being laid off in billing can still have jobs'. Then we'll make everybody re-apply for their jobs and justify your positions. Total disregard for HIPAA laws: A co-worker had a famous singer call in. I then watched 5 other co-workers access their confidential medical report blatantly right in front of everybody Your error metric was political corrupted and slanted. Abusive co-workers on the phone: Most of the clinical field specialists that called in were polite and understanding, but a small minority blamed every deficiency of Natera on you personally. Late sample to arrive, all your fault, mislabeled sample, clinic doesn't verify missing information, all on me. poor communications between departments: There was some kind of debacle in accessioning causing samples to be back logged by 8,10 sometimes 12 days, customer service first line trench workers was the last to find out about this and be provided with proper scripting. The end result was re-writing the rules and science for the timeline specimens were still viable.

Pros

Catered lunches (3x a week, but there is always enough food to feed the team for the rest of the week Great office location (gym on site) Decent benefits (but not great, considering this is a women's health company)

Cons

Where do I start? -No trust in employees and recognition for the work done -Constant distraction by sometimes conflicting, concurrent goals -Leaders have no focus, but they justify their behavior calling it 'enterpreneurial' and that means managing by chaos and fear -Goals are set without clear reasoning and are real 'monkey numbers' (no reason, no rime except to set unreachable goals). -Thosewho do well are falling into the same trap of 'management without focus and fear'). They have managed to be appearing busy and focused on whatever executives consider important. -Benefits: This company is wondering why its so hard to attract talent (particularly engineers) when benefits are sub par (how about paying for parental leave?) -Work life balance only exist if executives are on vacation: late night and weekend work is almost expected (to get the work done with the imposed deadline)

Thank you for the shout out on the positives: catered lunches, great location, gym, etc. Thanks also for being candid about your perspectives on the challenges. Like many recent IPOs, we are continually developing our leadership and supervisory capabilities. We’ve made some good progress over the last year or so. In fact, if you filter on ratings from current employees only, you’ll see a different picture of Natera…progress is happening so stay tuned!
