Pros

Membership allows you to get all of the NFPA Standards, Benefits from the company are exceptional, Coworkers help create a good atmosphere to work in.

Cons

Lack of leadership from management by not effectively communicating goals or being in the office, teamwork was also not effective due to members of the team being on vacation/out of state/working from home, communication between coworkers/management was awful due to the dynamic/layout.

Pros

NFPA is going through some positive change right now, thanks to a new vision, mission and direction from the CEO and the Senior Team. The senior team has a few new members that are very forward thinking and are encouraging open-mindedness and collaboration. The building is being renovated right now in order to provide a more open environment to help with collaboration. Previously, in my opinion, there were too many offices, making it easy to shut out, and even prevent conversations leading to new ideas and connections. There will always be those who want to keep up the walls and office door, not to keep out collaboration, but because that's what they're used to and that's what they're comfortable with. Right now, we are being asked to work differently, make connections, and have a stakeholder focus driving us. It is a VERY exciting time to be an NFPA and I can't wait to see where we are a year from now!

Cons

I honestly can't think of many negatives of working at NFPA. Everything we are doing is to better ourselves as an organization. Though NFPA is a relatively flat organization, they encourage learning and development with hundreds of training sessions on the Learning Management System, tuition reimbursement, and plenty of on-site opportunities for learning. All of the tools for owning your career are available to you at NFPA, you just have to own it.

Pros

None worth mentioning believe me.

Cons

Ever since the new CEO took over it was clear from the start that worker satisfaction was his least concern. I have never seen a so called non profit company spend so much time and effort talking about the “share holders” which was code for customers because as the CEO put it every customer is a shareholder. The new CEO hired a whole new team of penny pinchers and employees turned into numbers on a spread sheet and nothing more. The building I worked in averaged 1 supervisor per every 3 employees meaning a department with 10 workers had 3 supervisors like that makes much sense. They also hired third party companies to get employees to fill out satisfaction surveys that were supposed to be anonymous but were far from. They used these as a tool to weed out disgruntled employees who would try to get upper management to deal with issues but instead those who spoke up were let go. This was by far the most toxic work culture I have experienced.
