Pros

National Grid has a great safety culture and positive engagement with community and environmental concerns. Everyone respects each other and the transmission business will have sustained work for years to come. There is great emphasis on work-life balance and generous terms for paternity/maternity leave.

Cons

Final salary pension scheme and other benefits are slowly being weathered away.

Pros

For an intern, who is still going to school, the company is an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable real-world work experience, while also making a decent living. I have had the opportunity to do all kinds of analyses, reports, setting of templates, doing presentations, learing of new mega valuable programs, such as SAS, learning more about Microsoft Office that you can possibly do in school or at any non-work environment, etc. It IS NOT your standard internship where you do copies in the printing room all day. It is like a real analyst job, which brings real value to your resume. Also, if you have over 91 credits the yearly salary is 37,000 (paid on hourly basis), which is more than some past-graduation jobs offer. You may also get a small annual bonus (less that 1,000 before taxes). It is also an ongoing internship, which could go for years and if you do a decent job, there is the possibily that you may be hired after you graduate.

Cons

This is a utility company and as such, working for it is not as prestigous as would be working for one of the big banks, for example.

Pros

Good benefits package, older workforce in mid level management which is retiring over the next 7-8 years leaving room for advancement for those of us starting out, excellent job security, collegial working environment, mid level managers are great bosses, good level of communication from CEO Steve Holliday, employee discount stock plan starting

Cons

Too much red tape to cut through for service requests, customer service representatives need to be tested and vetted, better internal job posting board needed to improve recruitment from within, education reimbursement ought to be upped (reimbursement in exchange for work commitment perhaps) to allow for better educational programs
