Used to be good place to work

Pros

Work/Life Balance (but even that has been getting worse)

Cons

When I started there, the garages and virtually every cube was occupied and the place buzzed with activity and promise. It is almost a ghost town now and the culture has gone way down hill. They don't even admit to laying anyone off but they have been doing it slowly for several years. When you make the bean counter the CEO, that is what happens. Below market pay and a reluctance to adopt leading edge technology and processes in IT. They are following paths I have seen before in terms of "pay for performance" and off-shoring that are guaranteed to change the company culture in the US in irreversible ways.

Cliquish, Consensus Culture, work environment

Pros

There are some good things about NI. Onsite medical, cafeterias , good location close to the Domain. It's also a very low stress environment.

Cons

The culture at NI is inbred and cliquish. If you haven't been at NI for at least 5-10 years you'll be considered a noob. Don't expect to come into this organization as an experienced hire and be allowed to contribute. A majority of the middle management team haven't worked anywhere else so they have no idea what the world is like outside of NI. Upper management is sealed off from the rank and file and there is very little leadership or direction.
