Truly Unfortunate Place to Work

Pros

There used to be some really great, long-time employees who made the culture really great, but those folks are quickly moving on. The benefits package is great for a non-profit university. Remote work is really the best perk of everything, though.

Cons

The university has truly gone from bad to worse in the past couple of years. New management coming in as part of a recent merger are largely incompetent and show little care/respect for current employees. There is turnover at unprecedented rates due to the lack of trust, poor pay, terrible leadership, and never-ending empty promises of things getting better. Unfortunately, many folks are holding on in hopes of better days ahead and enjoying the perks mentioned above, but if you can avoid it - please don't come work here right now. Perhaps 2-5 years down the road when the leadership has cycled through again, things will get better (hopefully).

Pros

Co workers, students, tuition benefits flexibility

Cons

There are people who post on here and give more than one star reviews to compensate for the negative reviews. You can tell who those people are. The truth of the matter is there have been lay offs and it felt horrible to see co workers/family let go at a moments notice. To be at work wondering if you could be next because of the number of years you have dedicated to the university was so stressful. I felt sick most days. I’m still nervous wondering what day will be “my” day. I don’t think there are wacky and crazy people posting on here like someone else mentioned. I understand that as a university there will be change from time to time, but there’s a way of going about that change what happened last week was wrong in many ways. I hope this was the only round of lay offs and campus closures, unfortunately when it comes to the almighty dollar I’m sure this is just the beginning.

Pros

I love the people I work with! Great benefits and paid time off. Subsidized graduate degree from a want to be for profit university

Cons

Management does not promote within which leads to: miscommunication, unessecary policies, and chaos between departments. Leadership is lacking and moral is at an all time low. Look at the negative revenues on here and on Yelp. Board of Trustees we beg you, please, please do something to stop the chaos. NU has lost so many good employees This year and more two week notices are coming in.
