Pros

Pretty relaxed atmosphere if you're not in a call center. You have the tools you need to get work done.

Cons

Shallow strategy. You're an afterthought if you're not in Columbus. Poor execution of annual MBOs and unfair bonus structure. Stingy political fiefdoms run rampant. Little upward mobility if you're unwilling to relocate.

Pros

Great pay and benefits, above the industry average in some respects

Cons

Little to no career path, myopic mindset of senior leadership is totally out of touch with the needs of the agency force and even more so the needs of today's consumer. Individuals are promoted based upon their "social status" and not their skill sets. Middle management will sell you out to save their own skin. Silos exist everywhere throughout this organization resulting in little to no cross departmental promotion unless you're apart of the "in crowd". Certain leaders make decisions based upon reactive impulse rather than using pragmatic, proactive, methodical methods. The company buys up one smaller insurance player after another with no clear plan of fully integrating all of their "brands" into one fully functional cross functional platform. Most of the great employees jump ship once they realize they can do better elsewhere.

Ok for new employees; long-time (older) employees are weeded out

Pros

Good place to begin a career. There are opportunities to learn the business. Overall relationships between employees is good - a friendly, helpful atmosphere. Nice focus on community involvement.

Cons

Political environment at upper levels. Passive aggressive culture; everyone is Midwest nice to your face, but it changes once you leave the room. Management likes to bring in new people from outside rather than promote from within. Older, tenured employees are less valued over time. Many are weeded out, regardless of contribution, in order to reduce costs and change direction. Benefits continue to be cut, pay increases are extremely slow.
