Downward spiral

Pros

The product and platform is unique to the industry and their are a lot of talented Engineers and Product people that still work here.

Cons

-The leadership is out of touch with the employees. -There has been a cascade of bad decisions from a horribly handled layoff off of 30+% of the workforce to a marketing campaign that bashed competitors in a industry that has been decimated and struggling to stay afloat. -The company pivoted to a 100% SaaS company with the new CRO and the approach to the market has been not been well received by prospects with the sales strategy characterized as tone deaf.

Disappointing leadership

Pros

Once upon a time, there were very talented people working at TripActions and decent benefits. The benefits are no longer and the good people left are holding onto the paycheck until they find another opportunity or are laid off.

Cons

It is extremely disappointing to see leadership at TripActions lack all humanity. Everything stated in these reviews is true. In the last year, there were multiple reported instances of harassment that were covered up. The CEO bragged about having hundreds of millions of dollars in cash only to lay off more than 30% of his staff on a zoom call (with no severance or healthcare). The company runs on a culture of fear with a constant revolving door of hiring and firing without acknowledgment or explanation. No one asks questions or disagrees with execs for fear of retribution. There is no transparency, no trust and no psychological safety.

Pros

The people you get to work with

Cons

There's been a lot of changes since I first started. What began as a fun, caring, and great culture quickly turned into an environment of fear and unachievable goals mainly due to TAs hyper growth. To be clear, a lot of the issues started well before COVID. Once COVID broke out, we began to see the real colors of our leadership team as they became more and more desperate. All the values they preached of was literally thrown out the window. Most of the negative reviews are accurate and play along the same themes: - Layoffs: Yes, there was a huge round of layoffs where we lost a lot of great people. However, before that, people were constantly placed on PIPs with no real direction of why and unrealistic goals. Because of this, we saw high turn overs. Once our new CRO joined, we did away with PIPs and people were let go without any warning in mass. People were even let go while they were still ramping... - Favoritism: This runs true here. A degree of this is common in all companies - however, I would say it's much worse here. It seems that a lot of the early employees have moved up the ladder without any real leadership experience. This creates a blind leading the blind environment. There's never an equal opportunity to interview to move up as these decisions are made behind closed doors. - Work Life balance: is non existent. You're expected to work through the evenings and on weekends. We used to have a perk that was a recharge day every month, however, it was frowned upon when you actually took it. Our CRO and managers suggests that we work on the weekends to start planning for our pipe generation efforts. TripActions is not a SaaS tool. Be prepared to be a desperate sales person and give it away for free. If the customer doesn't launch, your commission is clawed back. Unrealistic goals are set my managers and AEs are constantly pressured to sell the platform, while our customers are dealing with a pandemic and travel ban. Things have been going down hill for a while and now with the current travel climate, things will only get worse. Run far far away from TA.

Thank you for your candid feedback. I recognize that while hyper growth was exciting, the company didn’t do everything right. In some cases, the company’s processes did not keep up. The COVID period has indeed been challenging so far and I suspect it will continue to be so in the near future. I am proud however, that we have adjusted sales targets to be based on metrics that are achievable in the current period while there isn’t much business travel. It’s true that I am not a fan of Performance Improvement Plans because I believe feedback should be given constantly and in real-time. I do believe in honest feedback (both directions), operating with transparency and investing in people to help them realize their potential. These are key to making merit-based decisions which benefit everyone involved. Also, I am committed to TripActions delivering the best sales enablement in the industry. We (myself included) are not perfect in these areas, but we are fully committed to the pursuit and are making significant strides. I value your feedback and appreciate your contributions over these last 3-4 years. I’d welcome the opportunity to discuss these or any other issues with you one-on-one. We would probably both learn some things and make the company even better. - Carlos
