I learned a lot. However, this company is full of themselves and women are treated like second class citizens.
Pros
- Hands down, the people I've met at this company have been some of the most awesome co workers I've ever had the pleasure of working with so far. Knowing them has encouraged me to keep going even when times were tough. - The company gives you opportunities to learn new stuff, which is awesome. This place taught me many things that I can take to a new employer - which I'm very grateful for. - They have perks like food trucks, massages, and letting the staff bring dogs in. - Work/Life balance was decent. You can keep your own hours within reason, as long as work is getting done promptly. - They are good to a certain degree about getting the software tools needed to get stuff done. I've been at companies who completely limit the software tools to get the job done, which made it harder to complete tasks.
Cons
- If you're a woman working for this company, watch out. Be prepared for sexist attitudes. I was given a great annual review and a considerable raise. However, a few months later when I had problems with another male coworker - I was bullied by upper management and eventually laid off. They showed hardly any sensitivity to the situation - it was extremely unprofessional. I would pursue them legally but due to how the situation happened - there is no proof or recourse, just suspicions. - The vacation policy is not ideal and was confusing to understand at first due to the wording in the contract. In the first year, you can accumulate 1 week of vacation time. I've worked at more conservative establishments with better vacation policies than The Nerdery. - This place doesn't seem to have vision or direction. Honestly, I think the vision (Luke Bucklin) went down in a plane crash. - I would agree with previous reviews - projects are sold in which sometimes The Nerdery doesn't necessarily have the developers who have the skills to complete the projects. - A large portion of the staff is paid under market. Don't expect to come here and make a decent salary unless your negotiation tactics are swell and can back it up with awesome skills. Come here with the expectation that you'll learn a ton of new skills and the next position hopefully will pay a decent salary. A lot of Nerdery Alumni have gone on to do great things.
