Pros
- Pretty good work life balance, especially if you are coming straight out of college. - Since, it has a strong foot hold in the data storage market, you get exposed to all interacting components in the eco-system like customers and partners using the data storage. - Some really knowledgable, dedicated engineers to boost your domain knowledge and technical skillset in C/C++, data structures and algorithms. - Has really good tie-ups with some universities, allowing you opportunity to attended conferences from industry experts.
Cons
- Code base being huge and old, ramp up time is pretty high. Due to this, need to spend a lot of time digging into details in your area of work, which leaves very little time to explore other components. - The technical skillset and culture is very inconsistent across teams. Some teams have excellent senior engineers and managers, and some teams seriously lack the technical expertise and strong management which could slow down your progress tremendously. - Unfair performance evaluation of employees, as managers could lack technical expertise and domain knowledge. This leads to dissatisfaction for dedicated, passionate engineers who deliver on their targets, but are not compensated fairly, relative to the rest of the group. - Interviews were not taken seriously for some hires for senior positions, leading to a lackluster group, devoid of good mentors. So, the interview questions for the group, should give you an idea of the competency of the group. - No useful technical feedback from some managers, as they are not technically equipped to understand your challenges.
