Pros

Was one of the best places to work with regards to culture and future possibilities.

Cons

3 consecutive years of layoffs and a good old boy culture that promotes social promotions at least within the technical support organization. Little recognition of accomplishments and employee accomplishments versus social status and a silver tongue.

Pros

Expectations are low, so you won't be expected to work very hard. The layoff packages are pretty fantastic -- going to work here just to get laid off is a fine plan.

Cons

New employees only receive 12 days of vacation per year, of which 6 will be used for company-wide shutdowns, so you really only get 6 days of vacation time to use when you like. The next layoff is just around the corner. If you can find an immediate manager you like, great, but the management above is probably horrible. Other groups inside the company will view your group as more of an enemy than the businesses you're nominally competing with (ie, another product group is more the enemy than EMC is). You will encounter many long-time Netapp employees who will never adapt, never improve, and see no reason to ever, ever try anything new.

Pros

Flexible / Employees are allowed to work from home

Cons

Company is full of cowboys who make changes to production systems at the drop of a hat without proper planning or process. Milestones such as code freeze are never met or adhered to. Top heavy - Too many directors and VP's. No clear promotion path for lower level employees. Heavy wastage of resources (people are not staffed properly). Some areas have too many resources and not enough work, while other areas have too much work and not enough resources. Organized badly - No clear guidelines on which director or VP has accountability. Workload is not shared equally by all employees.
