      Cheap, cheap, cheap... but the people are great!

      Pros

      Huge pool of some of the most talented engineers I have worked with. The most open management team I have ever seen.

      Cons

      Don't believe the hype. For those that are there that chant at very company meeting "Its the best place to work", they must have worked at some horrible places. Technical Directors are a role without mandate with an inability to execute on a vision. Management that spends time managing up rather than be honest with the reality of what we were doing.

      Pros

      It's a friendly, open atmosphere. Decisions are explained and consensus is important. Humor is evident and encouraged.

      Cons

      Very shaky and yet somewhat arrogant IT. Some insulated engineers who don't seem to understand industry best practices and think their ideas are revolutionary.

      Pros

      Cooperation/collaboration! We are ONE TEAM. The other day someone suggested a change to one of our internal websites. I thought about it and hacked a change, which worked on Firefox and Safari but not IE. I posted something to an internal mailing list about it, and someone on the east coast found out how to fix it and updated the site less then 10 minutes later. I love this company because people are committed to doing the right thing for the company and for our customers.

      Cons

      There is a diversity of management talent at NetApp. If you get a good one, life is good. If not then not so good. I'd love to see a pension plan beyond the 401k.
