Pros

1) Good people work here. 2) Certain departments are flexible in regards to telecommuting. 3) Gym is nice.

Cons

NetApp has changed over the last several years. There is a tremendous amount of internal politics, which is spreading through the company like a cancer. The results are apparent by the “Best Company to Work for Ranking”. I believe that NetApp will fall out of ranking within the next several years.

Pros

There are some interest projects to work on. Work life balance was OK, depending on who your manager was.

Cons

There was way too much politics. Most managers managed up, trying to placate their superiors. They did little to help their direct reports . There was way too much political rivalry between groups, even within groups in the same department. Politics was not stamped down. Instead, that became the overriding concern. There were way too many meetings. I spent 30-40% of my workweek in meetings, most of which were not very useful or informative. There was a big rift between Development and QA, which led to non-cooperation and impeded projects from progressing or tasks being done properly. Hiring was done poorly - managers could hire people arbitrarily without input from other members of the team so some managers stacked their group with their friends, whether or not they were competent or not. What was sad and ironic was that most of the very good engineers left after a short time, fed up with the politics. Like the sediments found in an evaporated beer bottle, the mediocre and less talented people stayed behind because finding another job was harder for them. This caused a vicious cycle where the technical competence of a group deteriorated over time.

Pros

-Some ability to WFH -Decent salary -Good location

Cons

-Sexist -Discriminatory -If you are even slightly overweight, be prepared to be fired (of course they'll make up an excuse as to why you're being "let go" when you find out months later it's because you were too heavy). -Liars and master manipulators (they tell you you're going to get X amount of bonus or raise, and low and behold, they LIED to your face, claiming "performance issues" even though if it weren't for you, they'd NEVER have anything completed--hmm, how is that performance based???!!) -Lack of basic communication -Annual review process and ratings severely flawed -Too many senior level managers with no care to anything/anyone but themselves and their insanely high salaries -If you're a hard worker, be prepared to be abused while other "slackers" are praised -Never give you credit for your hard work or amazing outcomes, take your credit instead -The Sr. level managers have a very "old school" approach to how they treat women in the workplace, they are LUCKY I didn't sue them for sexual harassment! -ZERO growth!! -Way too many political games!! -Big time favoritism and clique's all over! -Mind games and game playing is a "norm"
