Struggling with Equity Capital Ownership

Pros

Strong esprit de corps among certain groups - contributes to job satisfaction. Company has mostly hit sales metrics for the last year, enough to partially fund the bonus pool.

Cons

The company is owned by equity capital; predictably, they’re trying to flip it. Having suffered through large layoffs and seeing a corresponding climb in profitability, we’re now in the sales phase of their ownership. From a short term perspective, the strategy makes sense and the owners are entitled to make a profit on their investment. From a long term growth perspective, it’s another story. NetMotion builds products – like all product companies, if you lay off the people who build and sell products, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the company can’t build something new/ exciting in the next year, keep sales accelerating, and keep the profit curve climbing. It certainly shouldn’t be a surprise that the remaining staff is deeply cynical about the leadership. Moreover, it doesn’t help that we have neither a full time CEO or CFO.

Team-oriented, with lots of upside

Pros

Very team-oriented culture with great people who want to see their peers succeed. Solid software that serves an important purpose, with strong customer loyalty. Lots of upside with market strategy, fueled by broad channel engagement. Everyone internally seems to be pulling together to work through transitions that will make our customers and company successful.

Cons

Sales org changes were a bit tricky at first, but the benefits have become noticeable. Although brand awareness is growing, it's still somewhat weak outside of core verticals.
