Pros

Safe industry to be in - there'll always be a railway. Benefits are pretty good (defined benefit salary, travel loans). Work is fairly interesting

Cons

Very political - it's all about face fitting. Deeply unfair review process, all about creeping around top bosses

Pros

Excellent opportunities to progress Opportunities to demonstrate innovation and new ideas Given dedicated objectives and staff to manage 28 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays Annual general bonus scheme is very well received 75% discount off Rail travel

Cons

Station staff are employed on rostered role clarity contracts which don't work. You don't get paid for overtime in Role Clarity contracts and only get days back in lieu or additional pay for Bank Holidays or Rest Day Working. The process for employing new staff is very frustrating. You essentially have to wait until a person leaves before you can fill the position which naturally leaves shifts short staffed and again its difficult to get people to cover shifts when they don't get paid for overtime.
