Toxic Management

Pros

Good snacks and coffee, nice modern office and the option to work from home is a plus. Downtown office location is pretty sweet.

Cons

Toxic bully managers abound and aren't kept in check by upper management, who seems only concerned with the bottom line. Although the company values say that the work culture is connected and enlightened, it is actually more often run by fear and shaming others if they speak up about maltreatment by managers. Women and minorities face multiple obstacles to promotion and end up leaving the company to pursue other jobs.

New Relic Response

Thank you for your post. I am new to the New Relic family, an organization I already love after only a few weeks, and I'm disheartened to hear of your experience. As our CEO Lew Cirne shared in an open letter regarding diversity and inclusion, “Our commitment to being bold, passionate, authentic, accountable, and connected is what makes us a different kind of company. These are our values. These are what make us Relics. No matter who you are—your background, race, gender, religion or sexual orientation—you are here to help us achieve our mission. You are important. You have a voice.” We want you to feel safe and empowered to do your best work here. In order to act on this feedback, which I want to do, I need to know more. Please do come find me directly to discuss - my door is open. Please let me know how I can support you.

Pros

- New Relic is an incredibly high-energy, exciting company filled with smart people who are willing to work until they drop from exhaustion - Everyone I worked was incredibly ambitious especially in SF - I got to work across the business with a variety of folks - Lots of cool projects to own - Technology choices were strange but definitely workable - I grew more here than I think I have at any other job.

Cons

- Promises of culture were not lived up to for me. Long hours were common as was working through lunch (lunch meetings were a must for everyone I worked with). - Tensions seemed to always be super high and everyone reacted to it differently (we're talking months of tension, not hours or days). Some people would play the blame game, others would check out, and many would get really upset with other employees. There were a million other little things but for me that's what it boiled down to. Culture didn't match what everyone wanted and as far as I could tell it pointed at one C-level exec in particular.

AVOID - Worst Tech Company in SF

Pros

Decent SMB Products, Talented Engineers in production and R&D. CEO very nice and brilliant engineer. Has potential in growth in Enterprise.

Cons

C-Levels and Upper management in the old Wily/CA circle have done nothing to scale this company to enterprise. Frankly it's an unmitigated disaster. Such lack of leadership has created a dysfunctional environment in multiple departments and the level of arrogance displayed makes for toxic work environment. This is all due to lack of experience. Don't be fooled by the brand alone. Ask as many questions as you can when interviewing and make your decision carefully. Most of the recent 5 star responses here are fakes done by HR department. Many employees are now leaving.
