Pros

Great office location and amenities. Growing company, technical challenges provide interesting potential for work.

Cons

In the past year the focus on the technical development, innovation and deployment of quality code has been lost. Focus has been on the hiring and support of additional management who lack the skill set to understand the product, addition of many administrative tasks/processes, and attendance of meetings that seem to multiply in frequency each week. The good engineers are fleeing / have recently flown.

Pros

Still some amazing people (mostly individual contributors) working there.

Cons

When I first started at New Relic few years ago, it was a really great place to work. I worked on very diverse teams who created great work and supported each other. Over the course of 2-3 years, this all changed, and the creative, supportive, and diverse culture was replaced with a culture of gaslighting, passive-aggressiveness, and promotion of the loudest, most forceful person in the room. As the company has had worse and worse stock earnings, there has been more and more pressure for employees to basically shut up and do their jobs. The irony is that the company is in this position because of terrible decisions made by Lew and executive leadership (the ones that are still there after so much executive turnover) about the product, and not because ICs and managers are actually attempting to hold them accountable Avoid the drama. You'll never be good enough in the company's eyes, and you'll just be a tool to make Lew money.

Pros

The individual contributors and front-line and middle management are the best people I've ever worked with. Even though my time at New Relic ended badly, I'll always have good memories of the people I worked with and the work I did, and I'm lucky enough to count several of them among my friends now. The culture there strives to be very diverse, inclusive, and equitable, and I always felt like I could be myself without worrying about being weird (in a negative sense).

Cons

Company leadership seems to be going downhill. The updated user interface was released before it was really complete; then more recent goals have had numerous teams working lots of extra hours. There have been a few rounds of layoffs, some very quiet that weren't even announced within the company, and then a pretty messy, hastily-executed one (in the middle of COVID-19, no less) where the reliability organization was gutted along with random people from other teams. Every time I hear anything about how things are going from my former colleagues who still work there, I'm more and more glad I was laid off.
