Pros

The CEO is awesome, product management is strong, some of the best sales engineers I have ever worked with in my career.

Cons

Hail the Oracle dinosaurs from the early 2000's at New Relic. This place is full of them. Washed up leadership that has the management style of "my way or the highway". Most of them don't have any industry APM experience and run their business from behind a spreadsheet. Looking to get promoted? No chance, these leaders hire their old network from outside the company. Enterprise Field sales has no voice and gets treated like a 3rd class citizen from Finance and Legal. No one is hitting their numbers and no one is making any big money here. Career development is non existent. The main reason for that is the leadership doesn't know how to do it. They are over hiring with no real strategy on execution. The turn over at this company is like nothing I have ever seen. Leadership thinks that they are hiring the wrong talent pool for sales executives and blames the numbers on this. Ahh.. don't they realize they were the one that hired these people in the first place? Legal and finance killed deals for me which is unexpectable.

Pros

▪️ Still some great people left in pockets (but for how long) ▪️ Pretty good benefits including “unlimited” PTO ▪️Excellent grassroots programs with excellent people running the ERGs that can teach you a lot (just don’t expect the company to ever buy in)

Cons

▪️ DE&I efforts and company values proved toothless since Lew himself does not invest, actively donates to conversion therapy program, and lashes out if you try to Connect with him by Boldly holding him Accountable ▪️Ever since lockdown began, leadership has been pressing people to “do as much as they can” and dropping tons of work on everyone , all while insisting that they are taking mental health seriously because you can take breaks when you need them (as long as you’re willing to leave your team hanging with a pile of urgent work they’ve handed down) I was at the company for years and they built their internal brand on being the company that cares. That company is gone, and the people that were there for that company are running away as fast as they can. This company will lie to you and insist they are still forward thinking and willing to do the hard work. They are not. They’ve proved it over the last year. There is less creative freedom than ever, all roadmap decisions are made in leadership meetings and you just get handed urgent work, and worst of all, EVERY DAY they pretend that they care about you so much. If you don’t mind having little autonomy or understanding of why you’re doing work you are, and don’t mind living through likely more layoffs, a leadership team that can’t figure out how design or reliability work, all for pretty good pay, join and do your time. Otherwise, the old culture of this company that they’re still marketing to you is gone. Don’t bother.

Pros

Good pay (at least for PDX), fun and challenging work, great colleagues who are intelligent and care about their work, a CEO who is brilliant and passionate and who, I still believe, can navigate New Relic through recent struggles.

Cons

New Relic is going through a tough time. We've been consistently losing significant marketshare to our competitors for the last year and it seems to be causing leadership to fray at the seams. We've replaced several members of our leadership team with new people who lack accountability. We've recently had mass layoffs as well as a push from leadership to work longer hours ("for now"). Leadership claims to be sensitive to our struggles in this COVID-19 world, but their actions demonstrate a lack of real empathy. New Relic's refusal to take a strong stance against doing business with evil entities like ICE is also a departure from our historic cultural values.
