-Great people to work with -Partial benefits for part time staff -Some flexibility in work hours -PTO is somewhat generous in comparison to other organizations

Cons

-HR is not the easiest to deal with -Insane amount of nepotism throughout the system -Not a lot of room for growth and more often than not promotions aren't merit based -New system brought in many inexperienced managerial staff into branches causing conflicts -Low pay and raises are based upon contract negotiations and NYPL "never has any money"

The best reasons to work here are the amount of vacation and sick days that are available and camaraderie with coworkers although it's based on complaints.

Cons

So many. Working with the public is exhausting. They hire information assistants to do librarians' work for half the pay.

Colleagues who are willing to share their expertise and consider new approaches when communication is well-done. Opportunity to work with employees from many different functions and levels.

Cons

Employees are rewarded for performance in their narrow functions and not for collaboration - therefore, cross-functional teams take a while to establish traction for achieving organizational goals. Supervisors need training in how to supervise to get the best from their employees.
