Pros

If you are starting out, this station is really great for you. You will learn a lot about the industry from professionals and have a lot of hands on experience to create a great portfolio of work.

Cons

You may not be able to advance very much in this station. You will probably either be stuck in your position or have to find another station if you seek more income or a better contract.

Pros

Top leadership seems to say at least the right things. Nexstar as a whole is supportive of and invests in stations that perform well and seems to be supportive of growing leaders and talent, career development, and opportunities within the company. They are behind the curve on digital but making big strides to catch up. The company allows local station management - at least those making profits - to run as they please. *This can be a pro and a con (see Cons). Benefits are decent but basic.

Cons

Poor management and HR: Nexstar could do a lot better at HR management and employee wellbeing in general. Little to no effort to engage employees on the wellbeing front, and I know there are plenty that could benefit from it. Pay, unfortunately, is below par and getting worse. Not competitive. We saw paychecks go down due to rising healthcare costs, and they had the nerve to act like a 3% COLA raise was good news when inflation alone outpaced that. Raises are not tied to performance reviews, and getting one is like pulling teeth. The hands-off approach seems to allow cliques and incompetence to run rampant in leadership, management, and operations on the local level.
