Pros

-Decent Cafe -New building looks good -Most people are friendly -Biggest Utility in Florida and room for growth however…

Cons

-While they’re trying to “better work/life balance”, they’re completely refusing to budge on working remote or having a hybrid environment. This has been a deal breaker for many and some have left or started plans to leave the company. -Cares more about being “the biggest company you’ve never heard of” than creating a better work environment -Old-fashioned management that promises work output that is not reasonable for the amount of employees -There are some personalities in management that are brilliant but awful to work for. -Turnover rate is abysmal, young people are waiting out the hiring bonus period to jump ship. -Training in some departments is non-existent. Most are happy to help, but are too busy with their own projects. -Pay is not adjusted to cost of living. -Computer programs that are ancient and don’t work half the time.

Going downhill fast

Pros

They generally have good benefits. The medical, dental and insurance type benefits are average. The vacation time is below average as it takes so long to accrue more. However the pension plan is a very nice benefit.

Cons

The workalike balance is horrible! It is the worst I've seen and it keeps getting worse at least in IT. The theme is do more with less but even when you trim everything and run lean they expect even more. It is very difficult to get a promotion anymore. Several years ago the culture was so great. They generally recruited from within even if someone was not as qualified as an external candidate they would train and develop them. Now it is a lot of external hires and the reasoning in part is to change the culture. The senior leadership wants a churn and burn environment. They expect employees to be burnt out between 2-3 years and then on to the next poor soul. Employees used to start at the company after high school or college and work their way up the ranks and generally retire there. Now 5 years is a tremendous milestone. They treat you like a resource not a human. Also IT will be in a state of flux perhaps forever more. There are continual reorgs, teams are always on the brink of being outsourced to a managed service provider. If you get through 5 years at the company you will most likely have had 2-3 bosses minimum even if you are in the same role although your role will have shifted a lot and if you don't like it "there's the door".

There’s good and bad, but bad is getting worse

Pros

The job itself has intrinsic value and if done right, the company could grow its valuation by 2x. Many smart people in the company with good intentions.

Cons

The problem the company has is many of its leaders believe that it was their skill that allowed it to be successful. No doubting there many bright minds in the leadership ranks, but lets not kid ourselves either. A lot of luck played into NextEras success, especially given a certain turbine deal. Legal is understaffed, construction and ISC department is made up of angry dinosaurs who impede business, people in key positions are scared to challenge executives because once you fall out of favor, then you are guaranteed a near term exodus.
