Pros

Minimal supervision, no customers, quiet, no dress code, can listen to music while you work, brainless work, great bosses, great pay and benefits.

Cons

3rd shift (if you don't like it; I do)

Pros

The work is interesting. The people are typically professional and a real pleasure to work with. Nordstrom places a high value on building and retaining talent. If you're unhappy in your position, management will help you find a team or department where you can realize your potential. When I was hired the CIO came to speak at orientation. He expressed the opinion that if your team of smart professionals had the faith to hire you, you must be worth having. It's an uncommon sentiment in my experience, and one I highly respect. The organization practices a 'servant leadership' or 'inverted pyramid' style of management. As a result, the IT staff in the trenches actually have a voice and the trust of leadership.

Cons

Many IT staff (usually business analysts) started their careers on the sales floor and their competitive origins drive some empire-building behavior. Nordstrom in general is highly consensus-based, resulting in too many meetings. Delivering a software project rapidly usually involves ruffling some feathers.

Pros

Discount, can work 7 days a week, location

Cons

Geared to young, horrible if you are over 45. Most hrs given to 20 somethings, even if hired as "full time." Add more and more tasks and expected to be 3 people. Pd $1.00 more per hr to also cashier, then taken away, but responsibilities continue. Only place I ever worked where I made less after 2 yrs than when I started!!!!! In 20 mo, our dept turned over 3-4 times, I went f4rom last hired to only one left and despite having most tranactions, was given less hrs than 3 new 20 something employees. Age is priority, not productivity!!!!!
