Pros

You get a fixed schedule - so you know ahead of time what your schedule will be

Cons

This place was unique....how it stays in business, I have no clue!? Ok, so a little background....TD Bank owns the receivables on all of Nordstrom credit card products, but the customer service is managed by Nordstrom. So, if you have a nordstrom visa credit card or a nordstrom store credit card - all the servicing is done by this place. Ok, so now onto the many problems (in no particular order)..... 1.) The training....the trainers are dull and like to believe they are actual Kindergarten teachers. They put way too much time and money into childish things like playing games and group activities. First, of all - this job is done solo, there is honestly no need for "group activities". Oh, and did I mention they dress up? Yea, they wear costumes and find any excuse to dress up. I think they forget they are training actual adults, because this place requires a background and credit check....also, they do not hire anyone under 18 2.) The Management...extremely incompetent and also childish. They promote anyone who has been with credit customer service for at least a year and anyone with a "personality" so basically, you know nothing about how to explain interest charges or changes to the program, but you "smile and say hello to people", "you interact with others", "you socialize with your team". You won't believe how many of the "supervisors" know nothing about the internal software they use or how to provide realistic resolutions to customers and employees alike. 3.) If a customer service rep has a problem/question they are directed to ask a "LEAD" which is basically supervisor, but without the title and pay. I feel bad for the Leads, because they honestly do all the dirty work and honestly the supervisors should be doing the work for the pay.....oh, and if you ever call and request a supervisor.....you will most likely get a lead. 4.) The turnover rate is out of control......they do hiring classes about 4-8 times a year....by the end of the training session half the class will be gone and within months most of the class will have quit. I can honestly say the turnover rate is probably in the 90th percentile. 5.) It's impossible to get time off or a part time schedule 6.) HR is useless....they pay bodies to sit in the place , but they can't answer any questions pertaining to HR. 7.) Not really to do with the company, but I would like to give you my personal opinion on the following: There is sooo much inter-office dating/marrying in this place. Seriously, supervisors going out with other supervisors or people in fraud/collections department. I don't know how HR lets all of this run rampant, because its honestly a conflict of interest....but hey, what do I know?! ***now, you ask why did I work here? I had to find something that fit into my school schedule as I was taking early morning classes and this place is open until midnight. I did my time for 2 years and am grateful I had a job......but in no way do I miss this place....i really had to pay the price to have a job and have health insurance. I DO NOT recommend unless you really the need money and insurance.****

The top level is delegating-dumping everything on the lower levels. Tons of work, Unrealistic expectations and deadlines. Some directors have terrible people skills

Pros

discount, flexible hours, unpaid time off allowed

Cons

I'm willing to bet most of the recent reviews before mine saying "good company" are fake reviews. I worked for Nordstrom for 2 years. Toxic workplace. Don't expect your coworkers to be on your side. Commission brings out the DEVIL in people. I was constantly getting into arguments with coworkers about customers and sales. Senior employees felt threatened by newbies and treated us poorly. Management turned a blind eye because they were buddies. Day after day myself and other coworkers left crying. Senior employees got better shifts and newbies always had to close. I closed almost every night for the first six months. Funny thing is when you're interviewed Nordstrom tells you there are no set shifts and you work as you are needed. Don't expect any opportunities with advancement, especially how retail is headed. I heard recently (2019) they cut tons of department managers. Leaving less and less opportunities to move up. Unless you're fine being a salesperson for 5+ years, don't expect to be anything more here. Customers are just as bad as your toxic coworkers. Customers "rent" Nordstrom's inventory and you know who suffers? Salespeople. Guaranteed if you waste 2 hours of your time on a several hundred dollar sale, they will probably return it the next day. They wear it to a wedding and show off their new goods. Then they bring it back to Nordstrom, caked in makeup and stains, and expect you to return it. As retail started plummeting, our sales started suffering. There would be 5 salespeople on the floor and 1 customer in an hour. It was like lions pouncing on 1 small piece of food. I legitimately could not pay my rent or get groceries anymore with my paychecks from Nordstrom- which was my only job while I worked there. I couldn't tolerate the $300 paychecks anymore and dreading going to work. I got the heck out.
