Pros

The university has a great culture and tries to promote a welcoming environment to work in. There are efforts for DEI as well as worker compensation reviews that commonly take place. The leadership genuinely wants this to be a great place to work. There are many opportunities in place to improve the environment and bring common standards. You are able to impress by bringing well known best practices.

Cons

Many state workers do the minimum to get by because they know the politics between departments and red tape make additional efforts less meaningful. The campus is so disjointed between departments due to a need for individual control rather than overall governance that many efforts are duplicated between departments with differing results and high expenditures. Not a place where innovation is likely to occur.

Pros

Salaries are actually pretty competitive for higher education. More so than I expected when I moved here from out of state. Everyone I've met here is very invested in student growth/outcomes and very much a team player

Cons

All employees have the State health plan which is limited between a 70/30 and 80/20 PPO option. Would be great to have EPO and HMO options for folks to choose from. Also, there aren't many providers who fall into their "select" category - so many services end up costing more than I expect.
