Pros

Outstanding Ethics! Good pay, lots of smart people win us new work. Plus, there is a diverse range of positions and skills needed so it is relatively easy to move between Sectors if yu gain new skills or are looking for a location change.

Cons

No real help finding other internal opportunities when projects end. Tend to hire external vs. internal.

Pros

Great, professional atmosphere. Although I work at a customer site, NG is great at distributing company newsletters to let you know what is happening within the company. Also, there is very little micro-management.

Cons

Most of the work is away from the company because much of the work is at customer sites. Therefore, you get very little time with management.

Pros

Northrop Grumman Space Technology is staffed with very bright and well rounded employees. Career opportunities are abound, and matrix management is there to help you find a role that you are comfortable with, and can excel at. Since it's such a large company, there is a lot of room for cross pollenation of talent. Flex-time and 9/80 schedules are great in allowing a work-life balance, and it is something that management takes very seriously. Teleworking is gaining steam, and as long as it is coordinated with management, you can build a work schedule that is mutually beneficial. Compensation is fair, and requirements for promotion are clearly defined. Many employees work at Northrop for many years, and there's no shortage of reasons why.

Cons

Northrop Grumman Space Technology is a sector without an identity. Before being acquired by Northrop Grumman, TRW was known as a very innovative company that was an industry leader in space solutions large and small, beginning to end. After being acquired by Northrop Grumman, older employees grumble about management and employee structuring, and the typical management bureaucracies that are inherent in a large company. NGST seems very "walled off" from other sectors within Northrop Grumman. Benefit packages are somewhat "industry standard", as companies like Boeing have better education benefits. The housing market in Southern California is insane, so unless you have a trust fund, renting is the only viable solution. Knowledge sharing has been a problem in the past, as it seems like many employees feel like they're re-inventing the wheel with every task, though that is getting better with the role-out of online collaboration centers (bulletin boards, wikis, etc).
