Pros

Great opportunities to advance both within department and outside for employees who put in extra efforts. Benefits are comparable to others or above average.

Cons

Some of the only cons include holding on to sub-par employees to avoid firing, and the group-think culture that requires a meeting for even the most benign of decisions.

Pros

set your own hours good metrics for performance high commission rates you choose your clients, not your supervisor guidance from experienced reps when you start unlimited income potential depending on how hard you want to work ethically sound and honest reimbursement for licensing expenses fortune 500 company name is a great resume builder

Cons

no fixed salary makes it difficult to budget at first. This does stabilize and increase steadily as you work Sensitive to economic changes. October 2008 sent us scrambling to maintain clients instead of getting new ones insurance salesman reputation. Northwestern isn't like other insurance companies, but prospective clients don't know this at first.

Pros

Looks great on a resume if you were active in the internship and you made some sales Great sales and training in professional development Lots of opportunity to make money if you have a strong network or if you have exceptional networking and communication skills Great company with solid values...consistently deliver on their promise to policy holders

Cons

Your salary is highly uncertain due to the straight commission style of the job Little opportunity for career enhancement/mobility..once a financial rep always a financial rep...sure you can become a Managing Director "aka metrics-based sales manager, but other than that you are selling the same stuff with the same process everyday
