Pros

The company is full of some really great people who come to work and do their best to do a fantastic job. Many people (especially at plants) have spent their entire careers there and it is great to see such loyalty and perspective. The company offers free drinks and lots of great events to make the sites wonderful places to work.

Cons

It seems as though much of the upper management is simply there to collect a paycheck and "do their time". There is a lot of political back-stabbing (especially amongst the ex-alcan employees) in order to assert their dominance and maintain their salaries. Are these things great for the company and its employees? Absolutely not. There is a recognition at the highest levels that these things happen , but no one wants to do anything about it. If you stay in your sphere, keep your head down, and shut up, everything is fine. But do not ask questions or you will be the target of scrutiny and termination. One only has to look at the various R&D centers (Kennesaw, Sierre, Spokane) to see this pattern. If your people are afraid...something is wrong.

Pros

Benefits - healthcare, wellness, 401K match Departments - Individual departments support each other. If you're in Sales, your sales team will support you. If you're in Payroll, your payroll team will support you.

Cons

Culturally bereft - No team work among varied groups; people who had moved on to new positions refused to help with prior positions held; bitterness from long-term employees whose benefits had changed... Overall, not a pleasant place to work. Advancement difficult - If you are a person of color, it will be more difficult for you to advance at Novelis. However, if there is someone on your side who has a position of influence, he/she can help you advance.

Pros

-For upstate New York, overall compensation package for full time salaried employees is probably the best you're going to get. -Interesting manufacturing environment -If you're looking for a spot to land a job, take a small merit raise year over year and just "coast" for the next 20 years, this is the place for you. -Expanding plant. Job outlook looks secure.

Cons

-Don't expect to get a whole lot if you work hard. Little difference in compensation increases between the hardest workers who actually get stuff done and those who are just filling a chair. -Little effort to retain good employees. Most of the good ones who aren't tied to the area leave for greener pastures in other cities within a couple years. The good employees who are local to the area will typically try to shop for other jobs locally but quickly find out the overall compensation package is too good to leave behind. As a result, they stay and burnout.
