Pros

A few good people make it a tolerable place to work.

Cons

Poor leadership Lacks diversity Lazy recruiting HR is a mess Takes advantage of the few good workers and promotes complainers Doesn't value employees Honestly, if you want a job without recognition this is an okay place to keep your head down. If you want to feel valued by management and you are a white male then KAR will probably work out in your favor.

Lots of Problems

Pros

Employees on lower ranks and in the field are GREAT, the automotive industry is fun and interesting, meet many people throughout the country.

Cons

KAR is trying to re-invent itself and bring all of its brands together under one umbrella, which leads to a lot of problems even when there's a solid plan in place, which there is not. There are tons of disconnects between business units, corporate and the field, senior level and their subordinates, departments, and the list goes on. Management is extremely top-heavy and does not respect the lower ranks as quality employees, only as cogs in the machine. They promise one thing and then go silent and don't deliver until many months later, and then it's not even close to the original plan. Not to mention the fact that senior leadership is still an "old boys club" that doesn't look to change any time soon. Departments are silos where it's tough to find co-workers in another area who can help you because there's no collaboration. There are very few opportunities for advancement and definitely no decent pay increases. Communication is so poor, I don't even have the right word to describe it... After months of rumors and questions, the massive layoff last month was done so secretly and heartlessly that many remaining employees are constantly in fear for their jobs. Last but not least, the benefits are average at best and you only get paid for 6 holidays per year instead of the normal 8 or 10 from most companies. You can meet some wonderful people, but I would not recommend working here.

Pros

Compensation and benefits. You’ll learn different skills in a unique industry. If working out of Insurance Auto Auctions headquarters, you’ll meet some great people outside of your immediate team.

Cons

This is a job to take if you just need a paycheck and good benefits for the time being. There is an extreme lack of work, meaning you will make it through emails and follows ups before 10AM and some days even earlier, even after asking for things to do/coming up with things to do. There is no training and development and the growth potential sold when first joining was never even an option after joining. The team is small (now 2 people under the manager) and split between Westchester IL and Carmel IN. Finally, understand before taking a job on this team that the manager you will report to is very inexperienced, young and enjoys being in control rather than a being leader.
