A Secure Job

Pros

Job security. Low-level managers seem to care for their teams genuinely. Team cohesion. Work from home. A close feeling of doing good work that help save lives and help people get well.

Cons

Very high amount of expectations that are often not attainable. Very poor work/life balance. No performance based raises. High performance is rewarded with more work and more expectations with no additional compensation. Work from home status is directly tied to your performance review which can lead to favoritism and other issues that can break down the team dynamics. If you are in a salaried position, you will be required to work rotation oncall and holidays for free and you will be required to use PTO for your holiday even if you are on on-call status.

Don't value employees

Pros

Currently osf is paying more for nursing staff because they got desperate and HAD to as CNAs and RNs were leaving in droves to work elsewhere with better pay. Once the nursing shortage improves, OSF will likely stop giving as many increases and bonuses.

Cons

OSF only seems to care about saving money and paying staff the bare minimum possible. They don't replace many staff when they leave, making existing staff take on heavier loads with minimal pay. Admin expects more and more from staff, many times impossible expectations, and it is staff's fault when they can't do it all.

Pros

Close relationships with coworkers. Taking care of people I know from the community.

Cons

I was only a nurse for 5 months when they made me a charge nurse on med surg. Even though my manager didn't have a choice at the time I still felt like I was thrown to the wolves. I was still a new grad and felt like I had no idea what I was doing.
