Pros

Decent pay, good people in general. Respected within medical community.

Cons

Med-Surg floor/5:1 ratio too high, not nearly enough techs and the patients all require a high level of care. Accu checks on almost every patent AC and HS with many max assist patients is absolutely impossible to pass meds on time, chart CORRECTLY and PROVIDE QUALITY care. I feel so sorry for the patients. I was not able to provide the care I am very capable of because I was always forced to cut corners and make compromises in care. Also, certain areas require you to wear a TRACKING DEVICE! They tell you it is to monitor hand washing.hah! The device looks NOTHING like the small devices that are designed specifically for hand washing and do not work that way. The ones OU have monitor every movement and tell exactly where you are every minute..5 minutes here, 3 minutes here...the secretary informed me that I had been in the break room for longer than 7 minutes and accused me of trying to take a second lunch! Then when I was on lunch, (which you must CLOCK OUT FOR 30 MINUTE LUNCHES, ), the manager was able to find me on my lunch break in a quite place working on my homework ! I believe where I am on my lunch break is MY BUSINESS as long as follows hospital policy. That was the final straw...I went and hid the device behind a trash can and quit.

Pros

I have had the opportunity to work for two departments and have had a wonderful experience with my management and co workers! Benefits are great and well explained. The Voice is a newsletter put out on the web and informs all employees of new things happening with the hospital. Although it is a big hospital, you feel a part of a family at OU!

Cons

Parking is an issue. Most employees must park at an off site garage and shuttle in. For individuals with swing shifts or those that work odd shifts throughout the week this can be difficult. After a 16hr day no one wants to ride a shuttle to a dark parking lot adding an extra 30 minutes to your day waiting for a shuttle.
