Pros

There are none anymore. It sad that this company was great in the past but now it's a place of confusion and micromanaging. Between daily surveys that change and regional management that hasn't worked in a store to dictate what it feels like to have your hours taken away after they spend money on a holiday video thanking all of the employees because without us it wasn't possible. What a joke. They take away hours, benefits and change the hours of operations like no one has any kinda of work life balance. Then work is nothing but work the truck, work the truck. You have your hours cut from 40 to 34 for full time employees and then area Team leaders from 45 to 40 and think we all could afford to live on one job.

Cons

Paul and James Hines made in a real difference. There is no worklife balance or work culture.

Ocean State Job Lot Response

Thank you for your long term commitment to Ocean State Job Lot. It is disheartening to hear that your experience has shifted from positive to one of frustration, especially regarding recent changes to hours and scheduling. We understand that adjustments to the work week, such as the transition from 45 to 40 hours for Area Team Leaders directly impact your livelihood and work-life balance. These decisions are never made lightly. Our goal is to balance the operational needs of the business, such as processing truck deliveries efficiently, with our commitment to providing stable, sustainable roles for our associates. Your feedback regarding regional communication and our work culture is invaluable. We want our Core Principles to be felt in every store, and your comments suggest we have work to do in bridging the gap between our corporate initiatives and the daily reality on the floor. We truly value your five plus years of service. We encourage you to reach out to Edward Kruger Senior Human Resources People Partner at e.kruger@osjl.com so we can listen to your concerns more deeply and discuss how we can better support you.

Taking hours away.

Pros

Insurance and the vacation stays

Cons

In the last year Ocean Job Lot has basically screwed its ATLs. We went from salary to hourly with no bonus. We were allowed 45 hours. But vacations and sick days we lost money since we could only get 8 hours instead of the 9. Then one week before Christmas, we were informed, despite record sales, that we are being cut to 40 and dont dare go 40.1 hours. For most of us that is almost $200+ a week we are losing. And the company just got an award for best company to work for. Total BS!

Thank you for your long-term dedication to Ocean State Job Lot. We sincerely value your five-plus years with Ocean State Job Lot and appreciate your honesty regarding recent transitions. We understand that changes to compensation and overtime availability are difficult, especially during the holiday season. The shift from salary to hourly was intended to align with labor regulations, but we hear your frustration regarding how this has impacted your take-home pay and the calculation of your benefits. Your feedback about our communication and Core Principles is being shared with our leadership team. We strive to live up to our reputation as a top employer, and that includes listening when our associates feel we’ve missed the mark. We would welcome the chance to speak with you directly. Please feel free to reach out to our Senior HR Business Partner Ed Kruger at e.kruger@osjl.com to discuss your concerns further.
