Company Lacking Direction

Pros

VASCO US has some great people who are fresh and seasoned employees. These individuals have a lot of enthusiasm and really work to do a great job. This is with supporting customers and selling to prospects.

Cons

I joined VASCO when it almost exclusively offered authentication as a product. It was even called The Authentication Company. Since then it has struggled mightily in the US and been very up and down worldwide as evidenced by the stock price. The motto and pitch changed a few times while I was there. There was no clarity on which products to pitch. One product was discontinued entirely without giving notice to customers. The US leadership has moved to a new team run by an eSignature company VASCO acquired. eSignature and authentication/app security have no overlap technically or conceptually. Furthermore, communication between the various managers and team members was highly lacking. I would suggest looking elsewhere if you want a stable or growing company with lots of career opportunity. While things will certainly improve I would not want to wait for that possibility.

Thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback – I know it’s difficult to have these conversations so I appreciate your candor. You’ve hit the nail on the head in that VASCO is in a transition phase, one where future plans and actions may not be laid out as definitively as they are for products VASCO has sold for 20 years. While we understand that can be uncomfortable for some, for others that’s where possibility and opportunity present themselves. There are many changes in progress at VASCO in how we manage our people, in how we communicate as a global company and in how we reward our teams. I’m sorry you felt these changes were negative and I wish you the best in your future professional endeavors. Best regards, Roger Mueller Director of Worldwide Human Resources

Pros

You are put in a position to learn about industries and technologies you are not familiar with. It's always great to learn something new. Learning is the reason this review is three stars and not two. Remote Work Decent To Good Pay 401K

Cons

Sheesh, where do I even begin? First, Commission Plans are sent in June. No seriously, my team was sent our 2023 Commission Plans in the month of June, not January. Second, HR enables Toxic Management. I personally dealt with a new manager, a director, who insulted me relentlessly. This director and her C-Suite superior forced me out of the role for no good reason at all, though I had been crushing it for two years before I even knew those two existed. I have the LTIP & Equity award from our Company CEO just 10 months prior to prove it. I was defamed and my record of achievement was tarnished. Our HR Business Partner went along with the whole thing and did nothing to promote a decent working environment. I know the saying, "HR isn't your friend", but HR should at least make an effort to kindle a friendly and kindhearted work place. This is not something however you can expect at OneSpan. Third, the fret of more layoffs to come will always linger. Since the new regime came to power, it's been layoffs after round of layoffs there. If you value job security, OneSpan is probably not the right fit for you. Fourth, staying on the subject of job security, it exist however for a select few. Favoritism is real at OneSpan. Top performers are often overlooked in some departments if they are not favorites of the regime. Fifth, OneSpan's e-Sign product does lag a bit behind competitors in several areas. With cuts to R&D made, I cannot foresee things getting better anytime soon. Sixth, there isn't much room for growth at OneSpan. Your options to climb that corporate ladder are limited. Even if you are promoted to a new role, it's quite possible your title will technically remain as it was and that you will pretty much have the same responsibilities they promised would be off your plate. This happened to my team also. Take any promise your manager makes about what good things are coming to enable you to do your job better with a grain of salt. Finally, training is inadequate at OneSpan. Don't expect much training. It's mostly sink or swim. Some managers, directors, will expect you to do everything their way and they will say you're doing something wrong, and when you ask them what the right way is, they won't give you a single answer.
