Pros

The employees and co-workers are truly great people

Cons

They don’t care nor invest in employees They offer an annual learning benefit, but you better not use it or you may find yourself out of work The CEO lies so badly. He tells everyone during an all hands meeting followed in writing from HR that as employees you can choose if you want to work remote, at the office or Hybrid. When the majority say remote, he orders everyone back to the office and denies giving employees the option. The CEO will spend millions travelling for all the OpenWorld, he will spend anything to make more money. The problem is this is a tech company, yet the CEO won’t invest money to automate employee tasks. Everything is so manual, time consuming, and riddled with errors and re-work. Any request to invest to make things faster, more efficient and more accurate for the employee, the answer is no - we are cutting costs. So work more hours (without pay) to get it done. A loyal employee would work as long as required and not complain. His favourite saying is we are like a magnet - do what we say and we will attract, have a different opinion and we will detract. What kind of CEO threatens employees that you have to do as I say or you won’t have a job. Expect to grow with the organization - that’s a joke. They make you do so much extra work to show the value to justify being promoted, then don’t promote the employee.

Pros

Great teammates & coworkers Mature processes Good HR structure and general onboarding Areas of product focus seem successful A good place to learn how to do your job in a big organization on a big stage Great communication from the execs Professional environment Product lines exist in relevant markets - good exposure

Cons

OpenText approach is pervasive - one size fits all Inability to innovate (classic innovators dilemma problems) Mature processes can be decades out of date Process can be far more important than actual outcomes Has some odd looking history of buying business units, underinvesting and then putting the products out to pasture No Program Management discipline( Product and Dev Managers manager fill in here and it can be painful) If you do work here - take the good learnings (and there are a lot) but make sure not to carry the "process things to death" part with you to your next job
