Where to begin... OptioRx owns and operates specialty compounding pharmacies all across the US. A group of former pharmacy execs were given money by a VC firm to go around and purchase pharmacies and that's about how much thought was put into the company. Its unfortunate because the senior leaders at this company are what give Pharma a bad name. The pharmacy I worked for was hurting so bad and losing revenue so quickly that they were willing to dispense drugs in states they were not licensed in and were willing to forego safety protocols set forth by the FDA just to try and meet revenue goals.
Empty Promises
When you are brought on you will be given a great sales pitch on the potential and opportunity this is. In reality, you can expect to be thrown into the field, with no training, no strategy, no expectations and worse, no incentives. You are basically told go out and sell. I didn't even have a bonus incentive structure laid out until my third quarter with the company.
No Strategy. Lack of Guidance. No senior leadership.
This starts from the top down. I have personally sat down with senior leadership and had the chance to ask about the mission and vision of the company, which there is no mission, no vision, and no sales/marketing strategy. The goal for the company is to buy as many pharmacies as they can and hope for the best. Its unfortunate because there is a lot of potential for some of these pharmacies, but they are grossly mismanaged.
Overall just poor execution from the top down and the people at the bottom are the ones who end up with the short end of the stick. If you are looking to break into pharmaceutical or outside sales, I would recommend passing on OptioRx. They are not set up to deploy a sales force and you will not learn anything or develop any skills.
