Pros

It was nice to help the insured get their claims paid and to help providers understand why they were not being reimbursed.

Cons

The worst company I have ever worked for. My raise at 1 year never materialized due to bogus performance objectives. They constantly added more skills and responsibilities to my position with no compensation. My job was mostly talking to people who were exhausted from trying to navigate the United Health Care behavioral health revolving door of claim denial. Deny, Delay, Depose, as they say. It was so hard to talk to these poor insured people who were being failed by the system, with little ability to help. I was too qualified to move up, too compassionate to stay.

Pros

Unfortunately there are zero pros on my list

Cons

Anything and everything. Outrageous and unobtainable productivity benchmarks, mandatory overtime for the last 9 months with ZERO appreciation. No pay raise since being hired years ago-and I am not the only one. Benefits are horrendous and an utter joke. Paid Time Off earnings per pay period are bound to destroy any dreams of taking an entire full vacation week. 8 recognized paid holidays that we were promised we would have off, like the rest of the thousands of employees, but told 1 week before holiday season that we were required to work holidays and that it was mandatory for us to volunteer to work 2 major holidays and 3 minor holidays if we wanted to have ANY holiday off…if no one volunteered for any then everyone had to work all holidays. I could go on and on and on, but this company has sucked my soul from me and caused me so much misery and angry that I don’t want to waste any more of my precious and valuable energy on talking about it for longer than necessary. Just-don’t work for Optum/United HealthCare. Zero out of 5 stars.

Pros

Health insurance benefits are decent.

Cons

- Be prepared for micromanagement and working with leadership lacking direction, even while working remotely. - No diversity. - The company and some departments have a culture of expecting employees to work hard for years at lower pay before advancing their careers. Recently, a trainer position was posted that offered no salary increase, yet included additional business analyst responsibilities and advanced training duties. It was a lateral move with significantly increased workload. - At Optum, the company culture often emphasizes delivering high-level work and driving strategic innovation without additional compensation for these contributions.
