(1) PPL Leaders on the surface appear to have good intentions however when you get into the thick of things quickly realize the values they tout in meetings and on social media does not hold much weight. For example, I was in a meeting with a VERY high level executive, the individual walked into the meeting and immediately starting belittling a union employee she/he had just interacted with. I was honestly caught off guard by her/his language and bullying of this individual but the other 'leaders' in the room laughed and encouraged it which made it seem like a regular occurrence to me. My manager even acknowledged this interaction 1-1 with me after and essentially shrugged it off as normal. This best describes the leaders at PPL. They put on a great face for meetings, social media, 1-1 meetings but when the doors close they quickly turn their back, bully employees, and throw each other under the bus as quick as possible.
(2) there is a huge disconnect between management and the union. While the union probably has good reason to feel the way they do, it makes for a very difficult environment for individuals on the front line with the union. Anyone coming from outside will have difficulty building relationships with the union and will NOT be supported by PPL management. PPL management would rather have employees bullied and harassed rather than push back against the union.
(3) it's just a bad overall environment. I really appreciate the values they tout but unfortunately they don't hold water. It seems everyone (union, professionals, corporate) all his this attitude that PPL is disorganized, leaders dishonest and the company heading down the wrong path. The current leadership only cares about themselves and getting their promotion. I've never been with a company where employee so openly laugh at the company and the ineffectiveness of it's daily operations. People feel helpless to change anything or just don't have the energy knowing it will fall on flat ears.
