Oppressive Atmosphere

Pros

Pretty much all of the cast members (haha) in the other departments were nice and friendly. Even my team members were generally pretty nice, though green.

Cons

The oppressive nature of the management (both immediate reports and not-so-immediate) made them difficult to communicate with. This added an unnecessary element of stress to an already stressful job. Management would also like to tease you with promotions and then look for reasons to not give them to you. The pay I also learned is FAR less than average. Not sure what's so competitive about it. My team was also held back for raises to "help with the expansion".

Old school ideals will be this companies down

Pros

Pay is great, coworkers are good.

Cons

There is no open door policy. You mention something wrong with your job and you get fired for it. You work long hours and they don't approve overtime. The members are snobby and treat you like servants, but the company promotes this because "customer service" is their number one priority, not safety or employee happiness. Stress levels are off the charts and it feels like highschool with drama and backstabbing in every department. I'm only staying for the pay, otherwise I'd be out the door. Someone needs to stand up against this company for their idiotic ideals.

Pros

You get a free membership at a gym employees could otherwise not afford. In some departments promotions come quick. Pay is higher than other area gyms.

Cons

I was having to get creative with the pros. Now for the cons. Most managers are so far from upper managements vision. People tend to fend for themselves too much, but I guess with managerial/vp promotions coming once in a blue moon who can blame the pro club careerers. Wanna be Disney employee policies often get in the way of doing the job right. We are told in aquatics to not enforce many rules which I believe is the reason we average about one cpr required rescue per year. Also, while most of the fellow employees are fantastic. For some reason, because upper management wants to create that family feel, management almost never fires anyone. You basically have to do something that would legally place you in prison to be fired there.
