Mangment is rude to lower level employees No room for growth. You can work as hard as you want but you will not get far at pro since mangment hasnt changed in 20 years.

Thank you for your employment at PRO and for your feedback. The Front Desk compensation is equal to the compensation provided at similar positions in Bellevue. Our HR department conducts regular appraisals of industry compensation so that we remain fair and competitive. We also conduct annual performance appraisals for career advancement and compensation increases. Advancement and compensation increases are based on a variety of factors including initiative and acquired job skills. Additional benefits for full-time employees include two health club memberships, paid medical insurance, 401k reimbursement, service discounts (Pro Shop, Spa, Salon, Auto Salon, Personal Training), free Group Fitness classes), free onsite physician, free or co-pay only medical services (dermatology, podiatry, counseling, physical therapy) and paid time off. These additional benefits add to the total compensation package. We are sorry to hear about your experience with management as this does not reflect PRO Club’s core values. Our HR department and Senior Directors are always available if employees have additional concerns or seek support. We have passed your review to our front desk management team. We also offer employees the opportunity to provide feedback during their exit interview. If you would like your comments personally addressed, we'd be happy to put you in touch with our HR Director.

Thank you for your ten years at PRO! We appreciate your dedication to our members and are happy that you enjoyed the facility, your co-workers and support staff. Although, it may seem that a bunch of people were suddenly fired, they were not fired. As many companies experiencing significant financial losses due to COVID shutdowns and restrictions, PRO was forced to reduce staffing due to the lack of financial resources and nearly 80% loss in membership. The decision to lay off staff was heart breaking and our owner was generous in paying everyone their full salary for the first two weeks that the club was completely closed as well as paid medical benefits to everyone who was put on stand-by for the entire time. The most recent layoffs were the hardest. Many great, long-term employees were laid off. The club provided compensation for two weeks that made the employee's salary whole if unemployment was not equal to what they were making and paid for 30 days of medical insurance. As far as vacation, we updated our policy in May 2020 to reflect that we were not in a position to pay out vacation for any cast members who left the club, voluntarily or involuntarily. While we did not want to have to make that choice, the pandemic has left many companies with difficult financial decisions. Prior to COVID, vacation pay was paid out to employees who left employment. Most recently, the policy has been updated, as we feel optimistic that we are moving in a positive direction and we are now paying out vacation time to cast members who give a two week notice and work their schedule during the notice period. Again, thank you for your employment at PRO. We wish you future success and good health. And, thank you for the reminder, we can never thank our employees enough. Our owners think of PRO cast as family.

Pros

As a personal trainer/fitness coach, it is often hard to find employment at a gym that offers benefits like retirement, health insurance, decent pay, marketing, paid professional development, and more. I've worked at many gyms across the US and PRO Club has the best benefits for personal trainers - hands down. As a personal trainer, you receive a percentage of your set rate (your rate changes during quarterly/semi-annual reviews). You don't always have to actively market yourself directly to potential clients and there is a team of front desk and membership folks who will schedule clients' initial sessions with you. If you're full-time, you receive health insurance, 401k matching, a free family/spousal/significant other membership, and free counseling. They actively encourage you to use their inner network of dietitians, counselors, and physical therapists to help you help your client. Considering the scope of practice for personal trainers, it is great to be in an environment where this is actively supported. During onboarding (before you have any clients), you will go through training on the different programs at PRO and can take this time to experience the facility and all the programs it has to offer while getting paid a salaried amount. This provides enough time to acquire more clients without having to worry about finances. After this period, you will are commission based. They also regularly have certified continued education courses that can be used to keep your certifications up-to-date. CECs can be expensive so this is a huge perk because it is offered for free. Another perk is their insurance covers you - the personal trainer. If you wanted to, you could purchase your own insurance but if you are looking to minimize your own costs, they do provide personal trainer insurance. Overall, PRO has good benefits for personal trainers and they do their best to stay ahead of the pack.

Cons

All of those benefits come with some drawbacks and if you are considering a personal training job at PRO it's worth mulling over what you are willing to sacrifice. -- You are commission based BUT you have no control over your wages. Your manager dictates what your standard rates are and PRO takes a big chunk of that rate. They also control what percentage of that rate that you get. At the end of the day, the person that ends up suffering is your client (and you) who has to pay continually higher costs instead of you taking a larger percentage of the rate. This can lead to clients quitting training if you accept a raise. -- Disney culture copy-cats. PRO has strict rules on how you are to present yourself and directly copies Disney's (yes, like Disney World) culture of being "on" and "off" stage. Plus, men must not have hair longer than their earlobes, women's hair must be a "natural" color, tattoos must be covered, men cannot have facial hair besides a mustache, women can only have one earring in each ear plus more. -- Constant rewards for being a trainer who has a large quantity of clients versus providing quality service. If you provide quality service and training for 36 hours worth of training per week, do not expect to be rewarded. If you have 80 hours worth of training a week but provide low quality training, expect that you will be rewarded. If you make the company lots of money, they don't really care if you are a "good" trainer. -- Inconsistent company message. While PRO promotes a "healthy" lifestyle and offers services with dietitians, physical therapists, counselors, and personal trainers, they also heavily promote botox and "lose weight fast" schemes. The message isn't consistent across the board and it seems PRO is trying to appeal to every type of person.

We appreciate the feedback from this prior cast member. I truly appreciate them pointing out the benefits offered at PRO Club such as full health, vision and dental coverage a 401k and most recently PRO Club paying trainers for the first several weeks of the Covid-19 shutdown. There are other benefits we offer such as sick call with our in house doctors, 4 weeks of a mini-2020 lifestyles program where we pay the trainer to go through training with one of our existing trainers, dietitians, counselors, and MDs. We pay them to workout, while also paying for their providers to provide professional services. Full time trainers (all cast members) receive a membership for themselves and one friend or family member. The value on these memberships is thousands of dollars each year. While the Disney culture we adopted over 30 years ago isn’t for everyone it’s also something we layout from day one when they watch our introduction video prior to their interview. Our owner and president saw the amazing customer service the Disney corporation exudes and wanted our members to have that same high level of service positivity. In terms of productivity goals we are a for profit business and need to manage to that but feel we’re in an incredibly powerful and rewarding business. We feel strongly about improving lives and seeing more people improves more lives and gives us further financial means to do that at the highest level. We have never had any of our trainers do 80 sessions in a week, our full time minimum after allowance time for SOAP notes, scheduling etc is actually about 26 sessions per week. We do reward those with the ability to extend more towards the 40+ sessions/week but it could be deemed insulting to say they are providing a lower quality service have those in the 25-30/week range. Those training a lot typically train a lot for 3 factors: They enjoy training (and the clients they work with), they enjoy the income from training more, but also because they do a great job with training and create that demand. Our management team also keeps an eye out for those high performers burning out. Trainers working too much can be mutually destructive for the business and for that trainer. It doesn’t benefit the business to lose a successful trainer. We want to keep them healthy and happy so they can continue to enhance the lives of our members while still keeping the business strong. For the comments on pay rates we do have set guidelines based on education/certifications, success in the role, and tenure. There is the reality that for all businesses at the end of the day to increase take home pay of the service giver (and support staff) the cost of the service/product is passed on to customers. While this rate increase is split between the business and service provider in this case there are support staff to pay, utilities and supplies to pay for and those prices go up for us as a business operator too. We have a very successful metabolic disease and weight loss program, 2020 Lifestyles, that is focused on lifestyle change. Lifestyle change is a challenge and as people regress in their successes we’ve added various programs to help them right the ship. Providing planned meals created with our dietitians and in house chef to temporarily eliminate decision challenges and reinstate healthy eating habits in our 21 day and 28 day “Challenges” is a prime example of this. I actually did the beta testing for this program years ago and found it tremendously helpful in identifying my eating challenges that weren’t created by hunger but habits. Identifying habits helped me zero in on ways to create better habits. We feel confident the programs we offer are in existence for the benefit of out members. We do have a very popular medical spa that offers botox, other aesthetic services, as well as skin screenings and other medically based treatments. A routine skin screening actually detected an abnormality resulting in a biopsy a skin cancer for one of our trainers. The detection early was super fortunate for that individual. While aesthetic treatments aren’t appealing for all our members or cast members, that should not preclude us from having the freedom to provide this service to the members or cast members that do want to take part in any of these services. Again, while PRO Club ends up not being the perfect place for all people, we appreciate the perspectives shared and the opportunity to give our view on the comments. Carl C.
