Pros

I love my ESL students, so that's what keeps me there. My co-workers and boss are great.

Cons

Only 20% of the faculty are full-time, so good luck getting a full-time job. I teach at night. After 10 years, I've realized there is no room for advancement, so I'm looking for another job in the private sector. Our raises do not even keep up with inflation. The only benefits we get are sick leave and the option to buy health insurance. Instructors are rarely asked their input. Administration stays in their ivory tower.

Pros

I worked with GEAR UP which is a tutoring program where they place us in local high schools to help our cohort students. I love it. It gave me an opportunity to tutor/advise students to achieve higher education. GU provides high school students multiple public or private universities field trips and many educational workshops encourage students to go to college.

Cons

No raise in wages since it is grant funded program
