You get a paycheck and benefits. However, the cons overshadow the pros. The overwhelming stress from your job makes it not worth sticking around.

I have worked a few positions within Pasco County on both the East and West side as a Courtroom Clerk, Mail Clerk, Records Clerk, and Utilities Customer Service Clerk. I have noticed issues consistent throughout all of these positions during the hiring process. [First issue, hiring managers struggle to fill these positions.] At all of the job interviews for each of these positions, the interviewers would outright tell me that people would quit within a short period of time. [Second issue, the position that you are applying for may not be what you will get if they choose to hire you.] I have experienced instances where the interviewers at 2 of the positions (Records Clerk & Mail Clerk) that I interviewed for presented inaccurate information about the position that I was applying for. First, during the interview for the Records Clerk position, when I asked them to go more into detail about what a normal day would look like. They explained that I would essentially play the role of a receptionist who deals with angry customers rather than be responsible for handling records as was stated in the job description. Second, at the Mail Clerk interview, there was relevant information about the position missing from the job description. For example, it turns out the Mail Clerk position was actually a combination of at least 3 different positions combined into one since they were greatly understaffed and they were only willing to offer me $10.50 an hour to drive an hour to the workplace. [Third issue, high turnover rate.] The "Courtroom Clerk" position has been re-listed every couple months on job boards since 2014. I arrived in Florida before 2014 and I have been keeping an eye on the position, that's how I know. Why is the turnover rate so high? Simple. Poor leadership. The people who conduct the hiring for the Courtroom Clerk position are the reason why people continue to quit. The hiring managers are VERY sensitive people with poor communication skills. If they misinterpret anything that you say, they are not going to be mature enough to want to bring it to your attention which will make the work environment uncomfortable to the point where you end up leaving. Many of the positions offered by Pasco County are understaffed which makes the environment extremely stressful since you are doing more jobs than the one you signed up for and you are only being paid a fraction of what you should be getting paid. Also, be wary of the positive reviews on the Pasco County page. When I worked there I was told to leave a positive review to try to encourage more people to apply. If you are going to apply to Pasco County, then do your research and proceed with caution. Good luck.
