Pros

Your job is remote and you essentially get to make your own schedule. If you get the page views, nobody cares how you get them. You can do original reporting, but it's not expected or encouraged of you to do so. If you have no desire to improve or develop as a reporter and just want to exist in this career field, this is the place for you. You can probably work up to two hours a day and get away with it if you're good enough. Pay is better than working at a print publication, but you're not going to buy a house with this salary. The health care plan is good.

Cons

There is no communication, editorial advice or any sort of professional growth to be had here unless you are extremely internally motivated. You will not feel fulfilled in this position unless, like I said earlier, you have no career ambition. There is very little room to grow unless you are part of the "boys club" of upper management. I received one raise only because I asked for it. I was given plenty of new responsibilities over the years, but none of them came with a pay increase. If you are desperate for a reporting job and just want experience in this field, beware: you can end up getting stuck here for several years. There is no 401K matching.

Better Than Newspaper Industry

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Working from home is a plus, offers flexibility. Pay is better than an equivalent newspaper job. Management is pretty transparent about goals and finances. Feels like a financially stable company. Don't have to worry about next round of layoffs. While health benefits aren't astounding they are better than average and much better than many newspaper plans.

Cons

Sometimes goals can shift on a dime and then shift back just as quickly. No matching 401k.
