I am sorry to hear you had such a negative experience! In the newly formed Patch Media (no longer AOL-Patch) we greatly value our employees and strive to ensure they are treated fairly; Never would we find it acceptable to hold pay or set unattainable goals for the team. We have high employee retention, especially in sales where over half the team has been with the company for 2+ years.

Pros

extremely laid back atmosphere. A person with any business experience at all could tell from day 1 that this was not a sustainable business model.

Cons

extremely laid back atmosphere, at the cost of being productive. More like a frat house than a full-time job.

Through our new leadership we have taken many steps to create a profitable company with a fun yet productive work environment where we push our employees to the next level in their careers.

Pros

You work from home. You're given a lot of editorial independence. The company hires dedicated journalists. Regional editors listened to your ideas.

Cons

A major disconnect between management and editors in the field. Patch kept trying to reinvent itself instead of letting the company grow. Way too many hours without overtime.

I am sorry to hear you had a negative experience. Since reforming the company outside of AOL under new management we have build an editorial team with strong leadership and a commitment to quality journalism. It is the goal of the leaders in the editorial team to help their team members grow their skills and shine through their reporting and coverage.
