Well goodness. We havent had an editor in Palo Alto since 2013. This review appears to be from then. The upward mobility at Patch has been INSANE. The analyst I hired when we took over 18 months ago is running operations. The finance director is now CFO, and getting promoted to be CFO of another of our businesses, with the former staff accountant taking over as controller (on a path to be a CFO). An inside seller is the director of all direct selling. Another field seller is running programmatic. And a project manager from when we took over is VP of Operations.

Company Went Downhill After Sale

Pros

Working remotely, flexible hours, equipment provided.

Cons

Patch was a good place to work when it was owned by AOL. After the new owner (Hale Global) took over, journalism and original content was mostly eliminated in favor of viral aggregated content, the workload increased with so few employees being left, and the company's benefits were terrible. It's truly a company where employees are treated like robots, and it's all about quantity versus quality now, and ethics are an afterthought.

The dates on these reviews are bogus. This review is from the first half of 2014, and not current. We did have a multi-month fling with viral content. Like all affairs, I suppose, it seemed fun and exhilarating at the time. Our readers hated it, however. Chastened and ashamed, we stopped viral in mid 2014 and doubled down on local. The readers appreciated it and traffic doubled.

Editorial freedom and opportunity when launched here in 2010

Cons

Money ran out, poor communication from division and AOL, constant shuffles, mass layoffs

The dates on these reviews are bogus. We made $4m in cash the first year of operations post spinout. Cash has been in the double digit millions for the last year, with no debt and no venture funding. This is an ancient review with a wrong date.
