Awful Leadership and Culture

Pros

Very nice offices. Plenty of talented people in the organization.

Cons

Weak leadership overall (a few exceptions) with several abrasive personalities. Avoid finance - relatively new CFO is rude and has a terrible temper; treats his team poorly and is disliked by many. CAO is condescending and highly political. Low turnover in the Executive Leadership Team because the CEO is blind to the weaknesses of many of her direct reports and those direct reports could never get a better job, but high turnover at the levels right below them as quality people seek a better working environment.

Pros

Patelco seems to genuinely care about their employees and that manifests in a number of ways such as fair pay, great benefits, bonuses, hybrid work schedules, employee discounts, onsite gym, etc. Patelco also deeply cares for its members and that is reinforced often and genuinely. It makes a difference to work for a company that cares about you and those it serves. Erin (CEO) is great and I trust her vision for Patelco and our members.

Cons

PTO hours are for both sick days and vacation. You better not catch Covid or you won’t be taking vacation that year. This feels cruel when requiring employees must work in the office but then not providing dedicated sick time. Working in the office is required for a lot of roles and the HQ office can be noisy due to an open floor plan and multiple call center type teams located next to other teams. It makes concentrating difficult if you’re lower than a VP (who get an office). Even if you are remote, you will often have meetings with others that have a ton of background noise. It’s made worse by coworkers that take a meeting without using a headset.

Thank you for sharing your review and experience as a member of the Patelco team. Our PTO plan allows flexibility to choose how our team uses their well-deserved time off and we provide options to take up to an additional 40 hours in advance, should the need arise. We offer hybrid work schedules to help our team balance their lives, while meeting business needs. Our HQ offices provide open floor plans that encourage a collaboration. If you are experiencing background noise, please ask your manager or leader for their support of our office ettiquette so that you can focus on the valued work you do.
