I recently applied for the Personal Banker position at Patelco Credit Union at San Bruno Location and went through the initial stages of the recruitment process. Unfortunately, my experience was deeply disappointing due to poor communication and a lack of professionalism.
After completing a recruiter interview, I waited for three weeks to schedule an in-person interview. Just before the interview, I was informed that the position was no longer available because an internal candidate had been promoted instead. This decision wasted my time and effort, as it could have been communicated much earlier if internal promotion was already being considered.
Having previously worked at Wells Fargo, I can confidently say that we handled such situations far more professionally. At Wells Fargo, internal employees who wish to apply for a new role are required to go through the same formal application process as external candidates. This ensures fairness, avoids bureaucratic confusion, and promotes transparency. Promotions are not decided at the last minute or used as a reason to cancel external interviews, as was the case here.
This experience reflects a lack of respect for candidates' time and highlights disorganized recruitment practices. It left me questioning the transparency and professionalism of Patelco's hiring process. While internal promotions are understandable, the process should have been handled with better clarity and communication.
I hope Patelco improves its recruitment practices to respect candidates and avoid similar situations in the future. This experience has discouraged me from considering future opportunities with this company.
and I caution other potential applicants to be prepared for similar treatment. Best of luck!
