Good credit union

Pros

Good benefits, competitive wages. Cross selling is not as intense as in commercial banking, and goals are still met. The Patelco client base or "members" is more folksy, local, and receptive to cross-selling.

Cons

At the branch level, they have antiquated computer applications and tedious office administration.

Pros

There are no pros. but just a very bad experience.

Cons

I recently applied for the Personal Banker position at Patelco Credit Union at San Bruno Location and went through the initial stages of the recruitment process. Unfortunately, my experience was deeply disappointing due to poor communication and a lack of professionalism. After completing a recruiter interview, I waited for three weeks to schedule an in-person interview. Just before the interview, I was informed that the position was no longer available because an internal candidate had been promoted instead. This decision wasted my time and effort, as it could have been communicated much earlier if internal promotion was already being considered. Having previously worked at Wells Fargo, I can confidently say that we handled such situations far more professionally. At Wells Fargo, internal employees who wish to apply for a new role are required to go through the same formal application process as external candidates. This ensures fairness, avoids bureaucratic confusion, and promotes transparency. Promotions are not decided at the last minute or used as a reason to cancel external interviews, as was the case here. This experience reflects a lack of respect for candidates' time and highlights disorganized recruitment practices. It left me questioning the transparency and professionalism of Patelco's hiring process. While internal promotions are understandable, the process should have been handled with better clarity and communication. I hope Patelco improves its recruitment practices to respect candidates and avoid similar situations in the future. This experience has discouraged me from considering future opportunities with this company. and I caution other potential applicants to be prepared for similar treatment. Best of luck!

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns on your recent experience as a candidate. At Patelco, delivering a positive candidate experience is a top priority for us including effective and timely communications to both internal and external candidates. We were fortunate to have many qualified candidates for this role and appreciate the time each and every one gave to applying and discussing the role with our recruiters. Thank you again for your time and your feedback will be considered for future opportunities.

Pros

I’ve had the privilege of working here for over a decade, and I can genuinely say Patelco has become more than just a workplace – it’s like a second family. The culture is one of support and collaboration, where we truly care for each other and our community. We've faced challenges over the years, but with a strong, resilient ‘one team’ mentality, we've come out of each one stronger and more united. Our CEO’s leadership has made a remarkable difference in fostering this culture. She not only cares deeply about our team members but also goes above and beyond to improve the lives of both employees and members. I feel fortunate to be part of an organization where everyone is valued, growth is encouraged, and we're empowered to make a positive impact every day. If you're looking for a place with a purpose-driven culture and a commitment to its people and community, you should join our team.

Cons

High expectations during challenges, adjusting to growth, leadership transitions and initiatives.
