Pros

Paychex can be a great place to work. Having a lot of knowledge and skills does not mean you can advance in the company or get paid a lot. It is a great place to start your career and get the skills needed to get a well paid career. Paychex offers tons of training and do pay for school.

Cons

Having the knowledge and skillset does not mean easy promotion or salary increase.

Pros

Great benefits and amazing stability top the list. It takes time to climb the ladder, but you know you have a job/career to go to each day. That is indeed priceless. That and they are flexible enough to allow us to work 4 10 hour shifts that result in 3 day weekends.

Cons

I had to take a hefty pay cut to take this position. This combined with a 2 year commitment before I can move up to a new position within IT are the biggest downfalls. At the end of the day I know I have a job to go to every day, and a career to advance. In my opinion the good well out weighs the bad.

Pros

Paychex is a place where you can grow quickly from entry level to a payroll professional. The training is outstanding - within your first couple of months you are sent for 2 weeks to the corporate training center in Rochester, New York. All expenses paid plus per diem allowance. They really invest in their employees from day one. The opportunity for growth and promotion is also exceptional, and it really feels like the management are there to help you succeed. Employee retention is key at a company that spends thousands of dollars to get you up to speed from the very beginning.

Cons

Paychex has a very conservative corporate environment and culture. Rules and procedures are very rigid and managers are trained to respond to various situations in a very specific way. Sometimes it can make you feel micromanaged, especially when led by an individual prone to acting that way. On the other hand, at least you know what to expect! The pay seems generous for the first couple of years because raises are constantly coming in as you complete level work and attain Senior status, but pretty soon you may hit a plateau and as you become more tenured you find that the annual merit raises are not enough to even cover the cost of living increase. There are companies out there that will pay more, and as a result our office experienced a very high turnover rate for about a year.
