Culture shaping

Pros

There are truly good people at Paychex.

Cons

The company's initiative is to provide culture shaping to the whole company was my down fall. They force this on you and you have no choice. These culture shaping exercises are very uncomfortable. Turn to the person next to you and tell them how you appreciate them, I don't know you, how do you appreciate a person you don't know? Most of my peers felt uncomfortable. Does Paychex not see how uncomfortable it makes people? If you did not participate a meeting was scheduled to discuss why you were not "here and now". Definitely not the Paychex Values.

Thank you very much for your review. Our company culture is very important to us and we appreciate your insight into the culture shaping initiative. We definitely don't want to put any of our employees in uncomfortable situations. Sorry to hear that we were not the right company for you. Good luck in your career.

Pros

Free Pizza Sometimes! The health care is actually very good.

Cons

OMG!!! I sincerely do not have enough time in a day to share all of the negatives. There are some nice people here and many immature folks. It’s like an adult day care center without diapers! Actually, I think people do poop their pants because the lavatory situation is criminal! So let’s get this horror show rolling. To work here you had better be a “teacher’s pet” or you will never make any decent money. I am in payroll and am 37 years old and have never seen as corrupt a system as at Paychex. I see reps come and go out of pure frustration due to the ridiculously low base salary, the monthly lack of sales and therefore low commission, or just the interaction with management and/or your coworkers. John Gibson, the CEO, has driven the stock into the ground and ONLY makes almost $9 million a year to suck. He would love to have robots in the office because he could work those until their bolts pop out and their circuits blow. I see really good people get upset and quit because no one listens to their legitimate concerns. No one cares! OK, hopefully this will encourage you to find employment elsewhere where you may have a real chance of success.

Pros

The people who work here, for the most part, are fun

Cons

• Only 10–20% of representatives hit quota in a given month, which shows that quotas are set far above realistic expectations. • Senior management at the hub is often rude, unsupportive, and dismissive toward employees, creating a sense of disconnect between leadership and the sales team. • The director fosters a culture of fear by publicly shaming employees and contributing to a toxic work environment. This sentiment is widely shared among the 80+ representatives. • In my 15 years in sales, I have never experienced such a negative workplace culture. I am relieved to have moved on, and there are far better sales opportunities elsewhere. • The “unlimited PTO” policy exists in name only—employees are discouraged from taking time off. • Success is heavily dependent on territory assignments. Reps with favorable territories receive steady inbound leads, while those without are left to cold call almost exclusively, often closing only 0 or 1–2 deals a month despite significant effort.
