Pros

Some great co-workers who care and work hard, in spite of short staffing/ bare bones staffing, intentional keeping staff numbers constantly short to improve budgetary outcomes.

Cons

A few very negative co-workers who harass and bully others, long term employees, management does very little and this triggers turnover. Also management often under or unqualified (the Peter Principle- managemt often promotes people to their own level of incompetence). These are folks who "have been there forever" and apparently knew the right people to work their way up. This would NOT happen in an urban environment with a top hospital- these mgrs would never have been promoted. Pay is low- pretty much the lowest in the industry, staff with experience are paid the same as new grads. Much attention is given to the "mission statement" of caregiving- i.e. "the language of caring" and other such malarkey. Why not focus instead on good patient care and safety standards and competence, rather than such BS? My own family member was in a PeaceHealth facility for a couple of days, and got a pressure ulcer because the nursing staff was "afraid" to move them appropriately. So the patient suffered the last of her life with a painful pressure ulcer, that was completely preventable with appropriate nursing care. As a family member of a patient, I could care less about the BS "language of caring" and a lot MORE about competent patient care that prevents injury to patients. Perhaps having competent qualified managers who are well versed in the medical field might improve patient care, and lessen the focus on "the language of caring."

Pros

PeaceHealth has been a good place to work for most of my career. I have been able to grow in my knowledge and experiences. I've always felt it was my calling to work here.

Cons

We have had a lot of leadership turnover, and fundamental change in priorities due to the changing healthcare paradigms. Leadership has not provided solid direction in recent years, so the ship is sailing without a rudder. Unfortunately, we are burning a lot of money on consultants that are not providing the value I would expect.
