Thank you very much for your open feedback. At Penn Foster, we do our very best to continue to provide excellent service to our students. In order to do that, we recruit talented and hardworking individuals who create the sort of welcoming environment that you mentioned. That being said, we are always looking for ways to improve the development of our current workforce. One way in which we are striving to better create ladders of success is by implementing in the near future regular, quarterly performance check-ins and yearly reviews. These quarterly performance check-ins will provide more evenly distributed feedback that truly captures your performance over a 3 month time span. The quarterly check-ins then roll up into the overall year performance review and can give you your overall development for the year. Again, we appreciate your feedback. We will continue to focus our efforts on offering our employees the best workplace culture possible.

Pros

Flexible schedule, and some genuinely friendly staff/faculty. That's it.

Cons

This is a poorly-run diploma mill. The courses don't have instructors--they have graders, so students get feedback on an assignment from multiple people. Often, it is conflicting, and the students are incredibly frustrated. I'd be, too, but you cannot expect quality and care if you are paying less than Walmart. The pay is absolutely abysmal, especially for a job that requires a graduate degree. $12 an hour is *so* shameful, and so is taking student money and not telling them that very few employers will accept or respect a degree from Penn Foster. I'm keeping this off my CV; it's embarrassing.

Thank you for your candid review. We are sorry that you did not have a good experience with Penn Foster, as we pride ourselves on creating a positive work environment consistent with our Culture Code and Core Values. Penn Foster offers a non-traditional, self-paced, non-cohort based instructional model, and we are held to very strict accreditation and continuous improvement requirements. As part of this, we have a large instructional team that consists of part time instructors, adjuncts, teacher assistants and graders. Our graders, although part of the instructional team, are hired for the purpose of grading. Their flexible hours (up to 25 hours per week) are what many find attractive. Our graders can work from their home, during the day or in the evening; there is no set schedule in which they must work. The hourly rate is only one part of the ‘compensation’ we provide to graders. Additionally, it is made clear up front in the hiring process that this is a part-time supplemental form of employment. In terms of total rewards for our employees, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage on Day 1, a retirement plan with a company match, plus developmental training, flexibility in work hours, room for growth into other roles, free tuition if enrolled in a Penn Foster program and opportunities to earn incentive pay (on occasion). Again, thank you for your review. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

The health insurance and paid time off are pretty great. Also they have allowed employees to start working from home when the weather is bad.

Cons

Fellow employees are rewarded for doing things that while they do bring in money, hurt the students and for lack of a better word, screw over other employees. Upper management lies to employees and changes compensation plans with a moments notice.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. We work very hard to try to make Penn Foster a great place to work for everyone. We are steadfastly committed to doing the right thing for both our students and our employees. That being said, we can always improve. We do not condone, support, or put into action management practices that make our employees feel anything less than empowered. In fact, some of our initiatives this year include training and development for our managers and supervisors to help them understand how their actions and decisions impact the overall culture. Further, in support our values and Culture Code, we pride ourselves on being open and transparent with our employees through regular company meetings, such as our Annual Company Meeting, which was just held in December, as well as monthly senior team meetings. Additionally, we are continually reviewing our human resources practices and policies, such as progressive discipline and problem reporting, to ensure they can meet the demands of a diverse and changing workforce. Finally, employees are always encouraged to speak directly with their supervisors regarding any concerns or issues. We are sorry your experience was not what you hoped it would be. However, we appreciate any and all feedback as to how we can create a more wholesome work environment and how we can improve the overall value and satisfaction for both our employees and our students.
