Pros

Some departments still look out for their employees making the prevalent work politics slightly more bearable. Benefits are great, location beautiful, fun company events, and onsite Mexican food.

Cons

Unfair promotions and raises. The 'family oriented, no bull$#!(" culture is quite the opposite...political undertones, crafty manipulations, nepotistic favoritism, the list goes on. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Many careers will simply stagnate if you aren't drinking the corporate Kool aide or you happen to irritate the wrong Favorite.

Pros

One of the standout aspects of my time at Penumbra was the exceptional team of coworkers I had the pleasure of working with. From day one, I was greeted with warmth and inclusiveness by my colleagues, who were not only highly skilled professionals but also genuinely supportive and collaborative individuals. The positive work atmosphere fostered a sense of belonging, teamwork, and shared success. It was refreshing to work in an environment where colleagues were always willing to lend a helping hand, offer guidance, and celebrate each other's achievements. This positive camaraderie significantly contributed to my motivation and overall job satisfaction. In addition to the remarkable coworker dynamics, Penumbra also deserves commendation for its competitive yearly pay structure. The company recognizes and values the hard work and contributions of its employees by offering a compensation package that is not only fair but also rewards performance and dedication. The yearly pay provided an incentive to excel in my role, and it was reassuring to see my efforts recognized and reflected in my paycheck. This approach not only motivated me to strive for excellence but also reinforced the notion that my contributions were valued and appreciated.

Cons

I recently had the unfortunate experience of working at Penumbra and I must say that I was thoroughly disappointed with their vacation policies and the micromanagement prevalent in the workplace. The company's approach to time off and their controlling management style left much to be desired. One of the major issues I encountered was the arbitrary practice of deducting vacation hours when employees had exhausted their sick time. It's understandable for a company to have a policy to manage absenteeism effectively, but penalizing employees by taking away their hard-earned vacation hours while adding points to the attendance policy when they're genuinely unwell seemed unreasonable. This policy not only created an atmosphere of fear and reluctance among employees to take sick days, but it also undermined the importance of work-life balance and employee well-being. Moreover, the micromanagement culture at Penumbra was stifling and counterproductive. The constant need for supervisors to closely monitor every aspect of their employees' work created an environment that lacked trust and autonomy. Employees felt like they were constantly under a microscope, which not only hindered creativity and innovation but also had a detrimental impact on overall job satisfaction and morale. The lack of trust and autonomy within the company resulted in employees feeling undervalued and disengaged. It is crucial for a healthy work environment that employees are trusted to carry out their responsibilities without being micromanaged at every turn. This allows them to take ownership of their work, make decisions, and feel empowered. Additionally, the micromanagement tendencies also affected the team dynamics. Collaboration and open communication were hampered, as employees were often hesitant to share ideas or take risks due to the fear of excessive scrutiny. This hindered the potential for growth, learning, and the development of a cohesive and supportive work culture. In conclusion, my experience at Penumbra regarding vacation policies and micromanagement left me disappointed. The practice of deducting vacation hours when sick time was exhausted was unfair and counterproductive to employee well-being. The micromanagement culture stifled creativity, eroded trust, and hindered team collaboration. I hope that Penumbra reevaluates its policies and management practices to create a more balanced and empowering work environment for its employees.
