So sad to see what's happened to this place

Pros

Like many of the other comments, the only good remaining at Perforce are the smart, talented, and amazing people that were here before the Summit acquisition.

Cons

Where to start.... 1. Janet Dryer and Mark Ties are the biggest cons for the company, and more accurately, just cons in general. Our new "leaders" have continued to lie to the organization, and do it with a straight face. At an All Hands earlier this year (following a few rounds of lay-offs), they stood in front of the entire company and stated that they were going to be offering stock to all employees, as this was the team that was going to be with the company until the end. I believe their words were "lay offs are done." Since that time, they have closed an entire office, and continue letting people go. So much for no more lay-offs. 2. They sent out a company-wide survey asking employees about the specific benefits that were the most important to individuals. The results showed Mo Days and massage at the top. These are the same benefits that are soon to go. Why ask us for feedback, if you're not going to listen to it? 3. We also hear over and over that the decisions and changes they're making are all in an effort to "grow Perforce." The only thing growing at Perforce is the Minnesota office.

Pros

The server itself is an excellent, solid product. There are still a few bright people left, who abide by the P4 Commandments and are a pleasure to work with. Decent comp and benefits for employees who were around before it was sold in January. Working at Perforce had a profound and positive impact on my life, both professionally and personally.

Cons

There are fewer and fewer smart people on a daily basis, with fewer fun and interesting projects to work on. Morale in the Alameda and Canadian offices is poor. All-hands meetings used to be very transparent; we all had at least a light grasp on the company's financial situation from one quarter to the next, and this provided confidence that we were indeed profitable. Now all-hands meetings consist of lists of logos of companies that have been cold-called and sold to. Benefits and work culture are not what they once were. Employees who were around before Summit bought Perforce still retain some of the original benefits, but new employees will not. Morale is not good, at least in the Alameda and Canadian offices. There is a disconnect between what is said and what actions take place. Some people would call these instances lies. For example, we were told several times that there would be no more "headcount reductions", yet they continue to happen. Just to be clear, these are not people being let go with cause. Instead, they are layoffs designed to game their metrics, "consolidate", and hire offshore.

Pros

Driven by "Perforce Commandments" such as "we are one team," "fun is always an option," and "these are the best years of our lives," for many years Perforce was consistently ranked one of the best companies to work for in the Bay Area, and it shows in the many talented and loyal people the company was able to attract over that time, some of whom are still at the company.

Cons

Since the acquisition by Summit Partners at the start of 2016 the atmosphere has changed radically. Many people have been laid off and benefits/perks are rapidly being eroded in the name of uniformity and cutting costs, resulting in a brain drain as even those with secure positions depart for greener pastures (and there are plenty of those in the Bay Area right now) of their own volition. The new upper management demonstrates very little regard for or understanding of either the product or the employees. Nobody can say what the overall strategy is for the product and nobody dares ask. When the execs think they can get away with it they threaten and belittle like petulant schoolyard bullies, and when they need to turn on the charm the best they can manage is to come across as unctuous Bond villains. As an employee your best options are to either keep your head down and hope they don't notice you, or gulp the kool-aid and hope they'll decide to reward you when (if?) they're able to flip the company to a new buyer.
